Sir Andrew Landry was a vampire hunter in the eighteenth century and an enemy of Angelus.

First witnessing a vampire when he was thirteen years old, Sir Andrew dedicated his life to hunting them from then on, developing a significant reputation and skill in his new 'profession'. However, he met his match when he found himself facing Angelus, Angelus slaughtering most of Sir Andrew's team while the other man was tracking Angelus in a graveyard. A second hunt resulted in Angelus leaving the heads of Sir Andrew's men impaled on the iron fence around the building where they hunted him, forcing Sir Andrew to recognize that he wasn't the hero or wise man that he had believed he was.

Angelus's most personal attack occurred when he seduced Sir Andrew's maid over a decade after their first encounter, allowing him to turn Sir Andrew's wife, forcing Sir Andrew to stake her. This incident left Sir Andrew near-insane with grief and guilt, resulting in him being sent to an asylum.

Three years later, Angelus visited Sir Andrew in the asylum, informing him that he had spent so long tormenting Sir Andrew because the hunter's arrogance reminded Angelus of his own father, and he had decided to tear down the other man in a manner that he was unable to do when he had confronted his own father. Angelus also revealed why he had spared Sir Andrew's young son, Alex, despite killing virtually everyone else Sir Andrew knew; with his mother dead and his father insane, Alex's life would be a misery that it would have been almost a mercy to release him from, while his continued survival left Sir Andrew just sane enough to fully appreciate the horror of what had happened to him.

Sir Landry died shortly after Angelus' visit to him, Angelus reflecting later that he regretted the other man not lasting longer.

Alex Landry apparently learned the truth about his father's madness at some point, as his descendant in the twenty-first century, Alexa Landry, went on to become a highly skilled operative of the Watchers Council, only to ruin her reputation when she used her access to the Council's magical arsenal to try to kill Angel in revenge for what he had done to her ancestor, unconcerned about the fact that he now had a soul and regretted what he had done in the past.
