Synopsis
Things were bad enough when every inmate in the asylum wanted Spike dead. But now, the asylum staff has joined the cause. It was Spike vs. pretty much everyone.
Continuity
- Spike's hallucinations including "Smile Time" demon puppets Polo and Ratio Hornblower and his mention of Vahla ha'nesh indicate that it is set after "Shells" but before Angel: After the Fall and Angel: After the Fall: First Night since Asylum features the meeting between Betta George and Spike. Since the events of After the Fall and First Night take place right after "Not Fade Away," Asylum should also take place at least before "Power Play."

Pop Culture References
- Ghostbusters - Ivo Shandor, the person who originally built the Mosaic Wellness Center, is a character mentioned in Ghostbusters, a Gozer-worshipping cult leader and architect of the building where the ancient god will be revived. (Spike appears to recognize the name, and lines from the film are also paralleled in the book.)
