Dark Horse Comics is an American publisher of comic books (fourth or fifth in market share). Dark Horse held the publishing license for Buffy since 1998 and held the publishing license for Angel from 1999 to 2002 and since 2011.
Dark Horse Comics has also held the publishing license for other Whedon works like Firefly, Dollhouse, and Dr. Horrible as well as works by frequent Whedon-collaborators such as Jane Espenson's Husbands and Felicia Day's The Guild.
Due to other properties Dark Horse comics held the rights to, Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics published by Dark Horse have had some incidental crossovers with other popular sci-fi/horror franchises, notably the Alien franchise, from which, a Xenomorph was incorporated into the Buffyverse (In Space no one can hear you slay).
