Myresto Mor was a godly entity who planned to turn the Earth into a demonic breeding farm. Under the alias of Jamaerah or James, he posed as a Potentate and infiltrated Angel Investigations to prepare for his conquest.[citation needed]

Biography[]

Origins[]

James is a kind of uber... entity, from before the dawn of time. His kind, what you might think of as 'gods,' watched when the universe was made. [...] At this kind of level, 'god' or 'old' is essentially meaningless. And to be perfectly frank, this is all theoretical. He simply is.
Dravot Singh[src]

Myresto was an ancient being who existed before the creation of the Earth dimension. According to Wolfram & Hart, his origins were completely theoretical; he may have predated both the Powers That Be and Old Ones and was powerful enough to frighten the Senior Partners.[citation needed]

Myresto had a sister named Rowant Mor, with whom he had a sexual relationship. She claimed ownership over Earth, and, at some point, Myresto purchased the dimension from her. He took on humanoid form and created the persona of Jamaerah, a Potentate, to assist in examining his property.[citation needed]

"Potentate"[]

I've learned my lesson. A century doing grunt work in the mortal world is quite enough. I want to go home.

Myresto as James the Potentate.

As James, Myresto introduced himself to Angel, the ensouled vampire Champion of Los Angeles. He claimed to be a Potentate, a race of warrior angels who answered to the Powers That Be. According to James' story, an army of Potentates were sent to battle the Senior Partners' evil forces during the Fall of Los Angeles. Afterwards, they were supposedly captured and James taken to a hospital, where he met Angel. To vouch for his authenticity, James created an illusion of Angel's former ally Cordelia Chase to talk to him.[citation needed]

Angel aided James in his search for the other Potentates; however, they discovered that the Potentates were killing humans for crimes that they had yet to commit, and Angel turned on them. James sided with Angel and fought against his former allies. As the Potentates retreated, since killing Angel was not their mission, James remained with Angel Investigations.[citation needed]

Exposed[]

When I first came here, I saw the Potential. I saw a raw world swarming with millions of hosts just waiting to be filled. To be... evolved. [...] The death and rebirth of this world will be hailed for ages to come.
―Myresto[src]

James served with Angel Investigations for some time, forming good relationships with his teammates. However, with the arrival of former Watcher Laura Weathermill and her Monasterenser magnaserm Polyphemus on the team, James's true purpose was revealed. His deception exposed, he knocked out Laura and escaped after tearing off Angel's hands and feet. He summoned the soul eater demon Liss to eliminate Angel and Spike while he prepared his plans to take control of this new world. With Angel Investigations distracted, James donated food to Anne Steele's shelter, intending to prepare her residents to become new hosts for his demonic hoard.[citation needed]

Angel was transported into a possible future where Myresto's unleashed demonic forces have conquered the world. Angel allied with Illyria, who had traveled after him, to stop Myresto in the future, but they found that Rowant had just killed Myresto.[citation needed]

In the present, Connor and Laura tried to find information about Myresto from the newly-reactivated Wolfram & Hart Los Angeles branch. Myresto's warrior demons went after the team; at that time, Angel returned and used against Myresto the vanishing gem he acquired from the future. A portal absorbed the gem, and Myresto survived the attack. However, Connor was able to use his newfound powers to transfer the demonic baby from Anne to Myresto and ultimately destroy him.[citation needed]

Powers and abilities[]

  • Magic: Myresto was apparently skilled in the use of magic; he performed a glamour that rendered him and Angel invisible to human eyes and displayed knowledge of various banishing spells. He also possessed a magical sword which burned those with demon blood.[citation needed]
  • Strength: He possessed a level of superhuman strength, great enough to rip off Angel's hands and feet with his bare hands.[citation needed]
  • Shapeshifting: He could assume the form of a Potentate and have all their powers, as well as shapeshift into his demonic higher being form.[citation needed]
  • Illusions: Myresto had the power to create illusions such as when he created an illusion of Cordelia to convince Angel that he was on the right path.[citation needed]
  • Interdimensional portals: Myresto could create portals and summon demons from any other dimension.[citation needed]
  • Teleportation: When Myresto was posing as a Potentate, he teleported when Angel was talking to him.[citation needed]
  • Durability: Myresto barely felt it when Angel punched him in his abdomen. When Angel later punched him in the face, it did draw some blood, but Myresto still seemed mostly unharmed.[citation needed]
