Richard was one of Xander Harris' construction crew workers.
Xander and Anya Jenkins invited Richard to Buffy Summers' 21st birthday party in order to set him up with her. He was severely injured when he was attacked and stabbed by a demon that was unknowingly smuggled into Buffy's house but couldn't get the medical attention he needed for a time due to the influence of Halfrek. After this, Richard was taken to the hospital.
