Gaetano "Father" Noe was an "exorcist" who was employed to help rid the demon inside of Sam Stuart. He claimed to have been expelled from the church for not going along with the public line that possession was impossible in the real world, and seemed willing to work with Angel to exorcise the demon from Stuart, but Angel was nevertheless suspicious. Following another exorcism where the demon spirit implied a familiarity with Noe, Angel consulted with a source who revealed that Noe was actually expelled from the church for dark magic rituals. Doing additional background research, Angel discovered that Noe had been previously acquainted with both of the demon "victims", allowing him to realize that Noe was summoning the demons as well as exorcising them.
Noe had been trying to summon aid from Wolfram & Hart, but they had dismissed him as a client as his actions attracted too much attention from the wrong people. Tracking Noe to an abandoned cinema, Angel attempted to capture Noe, but a group of possessed demon clients of Noe's kept Angel occupied long enough for Noe to escape. Father Noe fled to London where he continued to reap the rewards of his phony profession.
Christopher Golden one of the co-writers of the comic, would later write an illustrated prose novel with Mike Mignola entitled: "Father Gaetano's Puppet Catechism." The title as well as the titular character may have been influenced by Golden's earlier work on Earthly Possessions.
