It doesn't kill you. What it does is make you feel like you're in a noisy little dark room... Naked and ashamed... And there are things in the dark that need to hurt you because you're bad... Little pinching things that go in your ears and crawl on the inside of your skull. And you know that if the noise and the crawling would stop... that you could remember how to get out... But you never will.

"Groupies" was the term Glorificus employed to refer to the victims of her "brain-sucking" feedings.

History[]

B5x13 Orlando brain suck

Glory brain-sucking Orlando.

Glory needed their mystical brain functions so she could retain her sanity, so every few periods of time she would begin freaking out until she got her hands on a human. She would insert her fingers into the sides of her victim's head and release them when finished in just a few seconds. The term used for this event was "brain-suck," from which the victim would be left delusional and unconnected to reality.

Since Glory's arrival to Sunnydale, the Groupies began increasing in numbers to alarming rates. Her human counterpart Benjamin Wilkinson summoned a Queller demon to eliminate them, though the Queller was only able to "quell" one of them before Buffy Summers killed it.[1]

After Tara Maclay became one of Glory's victims, Willow Rosenberg was able to feed and look after her girlfriend Tara, but she was advised to restrain her during the night as Tara was prone to slight violent outbursts.[2] At one time, she slapped Willow on the face, exclaiming "Bitch, I'm supposed to work on the factors!" Willow eventually found a way to reverse Glory's brain sucking, doing so by inserting her fingers into both Glory's and Tara's head and transfer some of the energy back into Tara, returning her to full sanity, as well as weakening Glory.[3]

Eventually after Glory obtained the Key, all of her Groupies became attracted to the presence of her pre-ritual and gathered at the sight of her presence, where they began constructing the Tower where it would happen. The Scooby Gang, using the crazed Tara as guide, went to the site and entered into a battle with these humans, who were forced to fight under the rule of Glorificus' minions.[3]

Powers and abilities[]

Only those outside reality can see the Key's true nature.
―from Rupert Giles' diary[src]

Because of their "outside reality" status, these individuals were capable of seeing beyond the effects of reality manipulation rituals and spells, such as the one performed by the Order of Dagon to transform the Key into Dawn Summers. They were capable of perceiving Dawn's original nature,[4][5] as well as sensing mystical events such as the "Big Day".[3]
