The Highgate Vampire was the name given by tabloids to a Lorophage Demon active around the area of Hightgate Cemetery in 1972. The Watchers Council, acting on faulty intelligence, sent a group of young Watchers in training - Rupert Giles, Philip, Lucy, Charlotte and an unidentified Watcher-in-training - to face the so-called vampire.

The demon killed all of them, except for Rupert, who was saved by the three adult Watchers, including Rupert's father, that were supervising the operation. The demon went to hibernate for nearly forty years, becoming a servant of Drusilla afterward.
