John Lee Walker was a Sunnydale High student.

John was on the football team, but was cut back to second string. The recently dumped Cordelia Chase attempted to make her ex-boyfriend, Xander Harris, jealous by making John Lee look at her teeth while Xander watched from afar, perceiving them as kissing from his vantage point. Cordelia then flirted with him but he quickly rejected as he did not want to be seen with the girl Xander Harris cheated on, however, he was not prevented from seeing Cordelia in private.
