Mason was a soldier in The Initiative and a UC Sunnydale student. When a Poltergeist fed by Riley Finn and Buffy Summers' lovemaking began haunting Lowell House, Mason suffered severe burns from a burst of flame that coincided with an orgasm experienced by Buffy and Riley.

- Mason's name was first mentioned in the "The I in Team" script but the lines were cut.
- Likewise, a line mentioning Mason's fate in "Out of My Mind" was cut. According to it Mason died from complications caused by the performance-enhancing drugs Professor Walsh had fed the Initiative agents and soldiers.
