Ms. Murray was a Sunnydale High literature teacher.
Ms. Murray was teaching her class about Othello when Buffy Summers had the power of telepathy, allowing her to read her mind and answer questions correctly. This impressed Murray so much that she likened it to what she said in her dissertation. However, this annoyed Nancy Doyle, another student in her class who enjoyed the attention of answering questions.
Xander Harris, who was also in her class and did not study, found Ms. Murray attractive.
