Along with Quentin Travers and several other Watchers, he traveled Sunnydale to test the Slayer, Buffy Summers, to see if she was eligible for the Council's information on Glorificus. He interviewed Buffy's friends Willow Rosenberg and Tara Maclay at their dorm room, first asking them about their relationship with Buffy. Thinking it was about their relationship with each other, Willow and Tara first hid the fact that they were lesbians, though they shortly after reinstated it proudly, calling themselves "lesbian, gay-type lovers" before Nigel told them that he actually meant their relationship with the Slayer. He also asked them about their 'magical proficiency level' which Tara responded by saying they're at level 5 on the spot. Before Buffy managed to convince the Council to give her imformation on Glory through a rousing speech, he protested, describing it as "beyond insolence" causing Buffy to throw a sword at him, which almost got him though, kept him quiet.
In 2002, Nigel, along with most of the other Watchers, was killed in a bomb blast orchestrated by Caleb, the second-in-command of the First Evil.
