Osiris, keeper of the gate, master of all fate, hear us.
Willow Rosenberg[src]

Osiris was a god keeper of the gate between life and death.[1] His name would be invoked in resurrection spells,[2][1][3] which should not violate the laws of natural passing.[3]

History[]

In 2001, Dawn Summers attempted a ritual in which she mentioned Osiris as "giver of darkness, taker of life" in the incantation. However, she canceled the spell before she could discover if the resurrection had been successful.[2]

A ritual performed to resurrect Buffy Summers required the use of an urn of Osiris. Willow Rosenberg called Osiris "keeper of the gate, master of all fate," and plead him to hear and accept the Vino de Madre as an offering. Willow resisted her test and Buffy resurrected.[1]

Later that year, Willow called upon Osiris to resurrect Tara Maclay, performing no ritual. A demon appeared to her and chastised the witch for invoking Osiris, explaining that this had been a human death by human ways, and she should not violate the natural order.[3]
