Owen Thurman was a Sunnydale High student to whom both Buffy Summers and Cordelia Chase were attracted. He enjoyed the works of Emily Dickinson, even keeping a book of her poetry with him as a safety blanket.

He accompanied Buffy, Xander Harris, and Willow Rosenberg to the Sunnydale Funeral Home when Rupert Giles was trapped on the premises by a group of vampires. He was nearly killed by a newly-risen vampire before Buffy managed to kill it. The following day, he expressed an interest in further dates, but Buffy gently turned him down, recognizing that his attitude would simply result in him getting killed if he stayed in her world for too long.
