Summary
Buffy recently called Angel and announced that she was alive. The two agreed to meet at a place between Sunnydale and LA. She revealed little when arriving back at Sunnydale, just as Angel revealed little to his co-workers. Xander, Dawn and Anya consider their own versions of what might have happened between the star-crossed lovers. However as they imagine what might have been, they begin losing control of their stories, as a dangerous fire demon keeps appearing in each tale. This turns out to be the result of Willow's attempts to psychically warn them about this same demon, who attacks them and Buffy in the Magic Box. After Buffy defeats the demon, it is revealed to the reader (but not the other characters) that Willow had accidentally summoned it, and it had taken her instructions to "open Buffy's heart" about her reunion with Angel too literally.
Background information
This story takes place after the Buffy episode "Life Serial". The events that Xander, Dawn and Anya attempt to recount take place between the Buffy episodes "Flooded" and "Life Serial", and between the Angel episodes "Carpe Noctem" and "Fredless".
