For the Old Ones, for his pain. For the Dark.
Absalom recites part of the Ritual[src]

A Revivification Ritual was a dark magic ritual intended to resurrect a vampire. It was implied that the ritual has been performed on other occasions, but it had never been successful. Absalom, alongside Ned, Bob, Jane and Walt, attempted to perform this kind of ritual to resurrect The Master. The Anointed One was present in the attempt, although he never had direct involvement in the ritual.

Performance

The ritual required any and all humans who were present when the vampire died. The humans would be hung upside down over the dead vampire's remains, and their throats would be cut. The blood would run down onto the vampire's remains, bringing it back to life.

Behind the Scenes

  • Since this ritual has been preformed multiple times and Giles was aware of it, it suggests that the Master may not have been the only vampire to leave skeletal remains upon death (Alternatively, it may be that these other rituals had been attempted on the ash the vampires left behind rather than their actual skeletons).
