Ronnie was Nancy's abusive ex-boyfriend. He was turned into a Sluggoth Demon by Anyanka after Nancy made a wish along the lines of her wishing Ronnie were a worm.
Xander Harris, Willow Rosenberg, Buffy Summers, and Spike tried to convince Anyanka to do the right thing by changing Ronnie back to human form but were initially unsuccessful. As such, Buffy and Spike set out to stop him from causing more harm.
Xander finally convinced Anyanka to change Ronnie back, and just at that moment Spike lunged at Ronnie (in Sluggoth form) he impaled Ronnie with a steel pole through the shoulder as he reverted to human form.
Buffy called for an ambulance to take care of Ronnie's shoulder injury.
