Spike and Drusilla had recently gotten back together and were enjoying carnaval in Brazil. One night Spike came home to yet again find Drusilla in bed with a demon. He walked out on her while remembering that she had also cheated on him with Angelus back in Sunnydale. He had tried to torture Drusilla into loving him again, but that it had not held up long. Alone, Spike wandered into a bar where he talked to a demon patron. Spike knew that demon had slept with Drusilla as well lover in the past too and so Spike set him on fire.

Meanwhile, Drusilla had picked up another man to bring to her home, but just as she was walking toward the door, the apartment exploded. Drusilla knew it had been Spike. So she went the mansion of her friend Oliveira, but found the massacre of humans and demons inside. It had been Spike and he was there to ask her why she did not love him anymore. Drusilla explained it was in the nature of vampires to abandon others, as Angel had done her. Spike wanted to know why then she had sired him and she said as a playmate, which she wanted him to still be. He rejected her, wanting her for himself or not at all.

Spike walked outside where he was greeted by an angry mob, whom he had told that there was a vampire inside. As the mob stormed the mansion with Drusilla inside, Spike drove away.

The events took place in February 1999 after "Lovers Walk" but before "The Harsh Light of Day".
